There are books on sale, that you can buy in any high street book store, written by accomplished well respected hypnotists, aimed at complete beginners, that are crammed with basic errors!

I know this sounds crazy, and it completely disgusts me, but it's true! If you have any books on hypnosis go grab one now and you'll see exactly what I mean...

Here's a basic rule of creating affirmations... They must be positive and in the present tense. This is a basic rule... the kind of thing you'd learn in hypnosis101!

To give you an example... "I will stop smoking in 3 days" breaks this rule, whereas "In three days time, I am a non-smoker" doesn't. Both affirmations say exactly the same thing, but the first one actually makes it more difficult to stop smoking... the second one makes it easy!

Here's another basic hypnosis101 rule... 'If you suggest something, your subjects' attention is drawn to it.'

Try this little experiment...

I want you to count down from 10 to 1, during this time, you're not allowed to think of a blue door. Just count down slowly to yourself and don't allow the image of a blue door to enter your mind. Don't even think of a blue door at all, just count down until you reach 1.

How did you do?

If you didn't think of a blue door you're a very rare individual! Most people.. in fact almost everyone on the planet.. will think of the blue door.

Your subconscious mind can't process the negative instruction. It has to think of a blue door in order to know what not to think about...

Let's try again... When you come to the end of this sentence, don't think of a your left hand!

Now let's take a look in that book....

My bookcase is crammed with books on hypnosis, I tend to buy everything going so I can keep an eye on the latest developments. I grabbed a book called, 'Hypnosis for Beginners'.

I'm not going to tell you the authors name, as I believe it's a little unfair to point the finger... But, I believe that you deserve accurate information, and that's not what you're getting!

So let's look inside...

Page 34: (During an induction script) "...all your tensions, all your tightness, and all of your fears and worries are draining away from the top of your head..." This focuses on a whole bunch of negatives, that might not even have been there... Essentially creating them! Instead, the focus should be on the relaxation and comfort, helping the client to focus in the way they want to go!

To focus on what you want to move away from is like driving forward looking in the rear view mirror... pretty soon you're going to crash!

Let's take another look in our 'hypnosis for beginners' book...

Page 158: (Stopping Procrastination) "You will not put off doing the things you have to do." (Fails the positive rule, and the present tense rule! Should've been, 'You always do the things you have to do promptly, and really enjoy doing them!'

There are stacks more mistakes too. You'll find these basic errors in almost every book on hypnosis. These are such basic errors and hypnotic authors really should know better.

The truth is... they don't know better! And this brings us to the second serious problem with hypnosis 'how to' guides and courses...

Most hypnosis courses only teach basic hypnosis!
